What does a Content Manager do?

The most important attributes of competent Content managers are versatility and adaptability,

as their responsibilities are strategic and varied.

STRATEGIC SKILLS

A Content Manager must possess analytical abilities, required to research and choose a marketing strategy suited to a specific brief. It may involve advertising, social media interaction, company blog and any website content necessary for a successful outcome.

By careful research, to obtain insight and originality, rather than stealing ideas from competitors, successful Content Managers will analyse the best content marketing practice available, while also most importantly taking into account the available financial budget.

TEAMWORK

Working with Designers and other Content Managers to produce a successful outcome requires excellent writing skills from Marketing Content Managers, as they are required to review and provide serious feedback to other writers, informing them of the best practices and writing styles needed, whether it is readability or originality.

Improved content readability and visual attractiveness is sometimes more important than writing skills and a skilled Content Marketing Manager will always play to the individual strengths of a particular chosen writer.

KEEPING UP WITH THE PLAY

In a world of constant change, the divide between design and content is close and analysis is

needed to detect connections between the two, finding methods to expertly merge them together.Today’s Content Manager’s must be up with the play, and constantly alert to technological advances, where marketing tools are advanced and available.

They must be familiar with the likes of Google analytics, Adwords, Facebook Marketing etc bearing in mind the various techniques and which format to use at what time.

Knowledge of readers mindset is essential. Whether a specific project is aimed at professionals, trades people, youth or adults, a discerning Content Manager will forecast the effect on the mind of the readers and decide on the best strategy to use.

ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS

Obviously, first and foremost, a successful Marketing Content Manager must be a talented writer with a proven background of competency. Ideally they should stick to a chosen marketing style, avoiding inconsistencies by working closely with colleagues or a social media manager, or maybe managing social media campaigns themselves.

They are team workers with excellent communication skills, competent teachers, who are able to advise and get the very best from their talented staff.

They are skilled at Time Management which is very important. They are able to stick to a chosen plan and not deviate from the original brief, so deadlines are met with ease.

A creative mindset combined with strong analytical skills and the skills mentioned above are the required credentials for a first Class Content Manager.
