As a part of our increasing commitment to the New Zealand I.T industry our Auckland team sponsors and organises the Auckland Software Leaders Group’s bi-monthly meet ups.
This invite only event is attended by the leaders of software solution teams and software product teams from around Auckland. We provide the venue, feature speakers, invites, food and drinks for a room full of the New Zealand I.T industry’s smartest minds.
The most recent meet up saw 33 attendees receive a presentation about an emerging technology, Blockchain, that has been described as the second wave of the digital revolution. Blockchain has begun to generate a massive buzz and has the potential to be the most disruptive Tech innovation of the century.
At the risk of oversimplification, Blockchain technology can be described as a decentralised database or ledger, which records ownership and value with cryptography, and allows anyone to view those records and take part in that database.
This technology has huge implications for many industries most obviously finance, as demonstrated by the most well known use of Blockchain so far: Bitcoin. It has already generated massive interest from major financial institutions. Bloomberg reports that Financial and Tech firms are projected to invest U.S $1 Billion into Blockchain in 2016.
The speaker on this topic was Paul Salisbury. Paul is at the forefront of NZ business involvement in Blockchain. He was involved in many of New Zealand’s first forays into Bitcoin and currently consults with companies on emerging technologies such as Chatbots, ‘The Internet of Things’ & Blockchain.
Paul is head of Architecture and Emerging Technologies at 3months, an NZ based internet consultancy firm. He recently collaborated with 3months founder, Mark Pascall, to put together the Ethereum.nz conference on Blockchain and it’s potential to disrupt global commerce.
